Security Fasteners in Railways, Trains and Stations

From undergrounds and trams to mainlines and monorails, railways provide countries with a crucial network of transportation - key to economic growth. Railways are the backbone of transportation, allowing an unmatched method of transporting bulk commodities efficiently and safely.

In the UK alone, it’s estimated that over 1.7 million people commute by train into major urban city areas every day. Many people find traveling on a train far less stressful than a long car journey and expensive parking spots. Trains allow billions of people all over the world to travel to work, school, appointments, meetings or holidays, every single day. Trains can save hours of traffic congestion, reducing travelling times significantly and providing passengers with a simpler way to travel.

The benefits of railways:

  • Environmentally friendly
  • High capacity
  • Efficiency
  • Safety and Reliability
  • Reduced traffic congestion
  • Passenger comfort

However, the benefits of rail travel can be harshly impacted by the occurrence of tampering, theft and vandalism, including:

  • Sabotage of tracks
  • Tampering of train signalling assets
  • Theft of safety equipment
  • Vandalism of passenger facilities
  • Interference with ticket machines
  • Meddling with lighting or furniture
  • Cable theft

All of the above are highly disruptive for the entire rail network, and can have impacts like service delays, health and safety risks, incorrect signalling, and significant cost for repairs and as a result of delays
