One-Way Security Fasteners
Which Permanent Security Fastener Is Right for Your Application?
If you've ever seen a vandalised vending machine, a tampered utility cabinet or a missing road sign, you've seen the kind of applications where 1-way security fasteners can make a real difference. By making authorised installation easy and unauthorised removal significantly more difficult, they help protect valuable assets in public and industrial environments.
That's exactly what they're designed to do: go on easily, stay on permanently.
At Hafren Security Fasteners, we've spent decades helping distributors find the right anti-tamper fastening solutions for their customers. We don't believe in recommending products just because they're expensive or complicated. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one. In this guide, we'll explain the one-way security fasteners that we offer, where they're used an how to choose the right option.
What are 1-Way Security Fasteners?
1-way security fasteners are permanent fastening solutions deisnged to make unauthorised removal significantly more difficult than installation.
Rather than relying on a single design, there are several different approaches. Some use one-way drive systems that can only be tightened. Others shear off part of the fastener during installation, leaving no drive for would-be vandals to grip. Some permanently enclose a conventional nut or bolt, while others require a dedicated installation tool to achieve a secure permanent finish.
What they all have in common is the same objective: protecting assets by creating a fixing that isn't intended to be removed.
As the original one-way security drive, Clutch Head screws are a simple, cost-effective solution. Their ridged drive can be tightened using a standard slotted screwdriver but resists removal by turning in the opposite direction, making them ideal where quick installation and basic tamper resistance are required.
Sentinel® uses a unique one-way Pozidriv® drive that only operates in a clockwise direction. Installers can use a standard Pozidriv screwdriver for fast, straightforward fitting, while the drive resists conventional removal attempts.
Shear Bolts and Shear Nuts achieve security in a different way. Dureing installation, the hexagonal driving head shears off at the predetermined torque, leaving behind a smooth tamper-resistant finish with no conventional drive to engage.#
Kinmar® Permanent combines high security with controlled installation. A matching driver socket is required to install the fastener to the correct torque, but once fitted it provides a permanent fixing with a neat, corrosion-resistant finish.
Rather than replacing the fastener itself, NoGo™ permanently encloses a standard nut or bolt. Once the cap is hammered into place, access to the enclosed fixing becomes extremely difficult, providing one of the highest levels of physical protection available.
Armour Ring™is a conical collar that transforms a standard hexagon nut or bolt into a tamper-resistant fixing. Once hammered into place, it prevents tools from gaining purchase on the hexagon beneath while leaving a smooth finish that's often favoured for Health & Safety reasons.
