Hafren Security Ratings

Security Level 1

Entry Level
Fasteners offer protection from vandalism and opportunistic crime. Drivers can be purchased by the general public.

Security Level 2

Enhanced Security
Fasteners are less Common and less Recognizable. Driver Tooling is non-standard and Harder for the general public to buy.

Security Level 3

Medium Security
Rarer (less well-known) products. Supply of driver tooling is controlled, less readily available to buy, enhancing the security of the assembly.

Security Level 4

High Security
Either 1-way permanent fixing, or rare Hafren patented high security products requiring specialist tooling to remove (only available from Hafren approved distributors).

Security Level 5

Maximum Security
Highest security available. Products are either 1-way permanent fixings, or require bespoke exclusive, custom made driver tools to remove.

Best Security Fasteners for Public Infrastructure Projects

Public Infrastructure is built to serve millions of people, but it is also one of the biggest targets for vandalism, theft, and unauthorised access. From transport hubs and street furniture to power cabinets and signage, every exposed fixing point is a potential vulnerability.

Choosing the right security fasteners is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect critical infrastructre from damage, safety risks, and costly downtime.

This guide explains what to look for and which types of security fasteners are best suited to public infrastructure projects.

Why Public Infrastructure Needs High-Security Fasteners

Unlike private facilities, public infrastructure is:

  • Accessible 24/7
  • Exposed to the general public
  • Often located in unmonitored areas
  • A common target for vandalism, theft, and malicious interference

Loose panels, missing fixings, or tampered enclosures can lead to:

  • Electrical hazards
  • Service outages
  • Injuries or fatalities
  • Expensive emergency repairs
  • Legal and regulatory consequences

Standard screws and bolts offer no real protection - they can be removed in seconds using tools that anyone can buy. Security fasteners create a physical barrier that prevents unauthorised access and dramatically reduces these risks.

What Makes a Security Fastener Suitable for Infrastructure Use?

Not all tamper-resistant fasteners are equal. Infrastructure projects demand fixings that can survive decades of exposure, heavy use, and deliberate attack.

The best security fasteners for public infrastructre should provide:

True Tamper Resistance
Environmental Durability
Serviceability for Authorised Maintenance

The Best Types of Security Fasteners for Infrastructure

Different parts of public infrastructure face different threats. Here are the most effective solutions.

1. One-Way & Permanent Fasteners like Kinmar, Clutch Head, and NoGo
2. High-Security Drive Fasteners like Solok
3. Shear Bolts & Break-Off Fasteners

Where Security Fasteners Are Used in Public Infrastructure

High-security fasteners are now standard across:

  • Railway stations
  • Bus Shelters
  • EV Charging Stations
  • Traffic Systems
  • CCTV Installations
  • Power & Telecom Cabinets
  • Bridges and Walkways
  • Public Lighting
  • Water and Wastewater Facilities

Anywhere the public can reach, security fasteners should be the default.
